About Me
Hi, I’m Lora, and I’m the founder of prepHERedness
I started my preparedness lifestyle a little over five years ago. It started out as a way to prepare for short-term power outages and other local emergencies. By the time COVID was a reality, and store shelves were empty, my family already had enough food and household supplies stored to last a month or so, which gave us some level of comfort.
As I continued to dive into preparedness planning, my interest in self-sufficiency increased, and my desire to learn more “old-fashioned” skills turned into a mild obsession. And of course, I am now excited about sharing the things I’m learning.
One of the things that frustrated me when I was starting my journey was that homesteading information focused on leaving suburbia behind and moving to a farm in the country (a long-term plan, but not an option initially), and the preppers were focused on doom and gloom scenarios that quite frankly stressed me out…neither of these approaches really worked for us and where we were.
When we started this adventure we lived in a city, had a normal house, and worked 8-5 jobs (we still do). We weren’t ready to go off-grid and build our self-sufficient homestead, and we certainly weren’t ready to fight the zombies in the impending apocalypse. We just wanted to develop some new skills that helped us feel more confident and we wanted to have some emergency supplies for when the store shelves went empty again.
Here at prepHERedness, I want to encourage you to take small steps towards more self-sufficiency.
I want to help you learn practical skills you can use now, not when you move to your homestead in the country.
I’m focused on helping you take control in times of chaos by getting a little more prepared each day so you feel confident.
I want you to feel excited about learning new skills, whether that is growing salad greens in a hydroponic garden, making bread from scratch, or making your own cleaning products.
I am a life-long learner and teacher at heart, which means I’m REALLY excited about sharing tips, ideas, and resources that can help you achieve the level of self-sufficiency you’ve been dreaming about.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic was a great example of how fast an emergency can hit our country and how fragile our supply chains and economy can really be…who would have ever thought toilet paper might be an emergency product worth having! (If you answered, “ME”, then just know you are in the right place!)
Together we’ll talk about how to prepare your family for the unexpected and how to bring back useful skills that can help move you towards a more self-sufficient lifestyle, or at least move you to a lifestyle that’s a little less dependent on your Amazon Prime membership (although I do love Amazon!)
